IT management adapted for high speed

– Riddermark Bil on circular IT in a growing organization

For a rapidly growing business, access to functioning IT is crucial. When new employees start at short notice and equipment is frequently replaced, a working method that is fast, secure, and sustainable is required. For Riddermark Bil, the collaboration with Itreon was a way to meet that reality.

Riddermark Bil is Sweden's largest dealer of used cars, with 16 facilities, 600 employees, and over 300,000 customers. The business is characterized by a fast pace, large volumes, and continuous changes in the organization—something that also places clear demands on IT management.

"We have extremely high IT requirements. Salespeople start and leave, computers need to be sent out and returned, and sometimes we need equipment on the same day," says Peter Dunder, IT manager at Riddermark Bil.

Quick in – quick out

Previously, much of the IT equipment was purchased new. It worked—but at a high price.

"When we bought new equipment, it was extremely expensive. High onboarding costs and a lot of administration. At the same time, we had tried second-hand equipment from other suppliers, but the delivery times were too long. That's not possible when someone is starting the next day," says Peter.

Riddermark Bil needed an alternative that combined access to used equipment with the same pace that the business requires. When Peter got in touch with Itreon, it became clear that their way of working was adapted to rapid changes and short lead times.

"They had good products, but above all, their deliveries worked. Often within one to two days. That's a lead time we can maintain. And sometimes we even have a small warehouse ourselves," says Peter.

“We have been very well paid”

The collaboration quickly expanded beyond purchasing. A significant difference compared to previous suppliers was how end-of-life IT equipment was handled.

"Many others wanted to charge for collecting old equipment. Here, it was the opposite," Peter notes.

In practice, this means that Itreon places lockable security cabinets at Riddermark Bil. Computers and other equipment that are taken out of service are collected there. Everything is documented, locked, and sealed before collection. A few days later, Riddermark Bil receives an inventory list and clear follow-up information on what happens to the equipment.

"We know that hard drives are securely erased and that anything that can be reused is refined and resold. That feels reassuring, both from a security and sustainability perspective. Instead of equipment being left in piles or costing money to dispose of, it actually creates residual value," says Peter, continuing:

– And we have been very well compensated. We can either take it as credit or use the value when purchasing new equipment from Itreon. It becomes a cycle that works.

A partnership that keeps pace

For Riddermark Bil, the connection to its core business is clear.

"We work with used cars. A car that is ten years old shows signs of wear and tear, but it still serves its purpose. It's exactly the same with IT equipment," says Peter.

Not all employees need maximum performance. By matching the right equipment to the right needs, it is possible to reduce both costs and environmental impact without compromising on functionality, according to Peter. Today, an estimated 80 percent of Riddermark Bil's IT equipment comes via Itreon. Contact is easy, feedback is clear, and the process is consistent.

"They are responsive, quick, and think like us. A product should not sit in storage. It should be out there being used. That applies to both cars and IT," says Peter.

For organizations that do not yet have a clear process for old IT equipment, Peter's advice is simple:

– It's definitely worth trying. It costs nothing to try it out and evaluate it for yourself. For us, it has been very successful.
