IT Management Adapted for a Fast-Paced Environment

– Riddermark Bil on Circular IT in a Growing Organization

For a rapidly growing business, access to functional IT is crucial. When new employees join on short notice and equipment is frequently replaced, an approach that is fast, secure, and sustainable is required. For Riddermark Bil, the collaboration with Itreon provided a solution to this reality.

Riddermark Bil is Sweden's largest used car dealer, with 16 facilities, 600 employees, and over 300,000 customers. The business is characterized by a fast pace, high volumes, and continuous organizational changes – factors that also impose clear demands on IT management.

– We have an extremely high demand for IT. Salespeople start and leave, computers need to be deployed and returned, and sometimes we need equipment on the same day, says Peter Dunder, IT Manager at Riddermark Bil.

Rapid In – Rapid Out

Previously, much IT equipment was purchased new. It worked – but at a high cost.

– When we purchased new equipment, it was extremely expensive. High onboarding costs and extensive administration. Concurrently, we had explored used equipment from other providers, but their delivery times were too long. That's not feasible when someone starts the next day, says Peter.

Riddermark Bil required an alternative that combined access to used equipment with the same operational tempo the business demands. When Peter connected with Itreon, it became clear that their approach was tailored for rapid changes and short lead times.

– They offered good products, but most importantly, their deliveries were efficient. Often within one to two days. That's a lead time we can manage. And sometimes, we also maintain a small inventory ourselves, says Peter.

“We have received very good compensation”

The collaboration quickly evolved beyond mere procurement. A significant distinction from previous suppliers was their approach to managing end-of-life IT equipment.

– Many others charged for collecting old equipment. Here, it was the opposite, Peter notes.

In practice, Itreon places lockable security cabinets at Riddermark Bil. Computers and other decommissioned equipment are collected there. Everything is documented, locked, and sealed before collection. A few days later, Riddermark Bil receives an inventory list and a clear update on the equipment's disposition.

– We know that hard drives are securely erased and that usable components are refurbished and resold. This provides assurance – from both a security and sustainability perspective. Instead of equipment accumulating or incurring disposal costs, actual residual value is generated, Peter states, adding:

– And we have received very good compensation. We either receive it as credit or apply the value when purchasing new equipment from Itreon. It creates a functional circular economy.

A Partnership That Keeps Pace

For Riddermark Bil, the connection to their core business is evident.

– We deal in used cars. A ten-year-old car shows signs of use, but it still fulfills its function. It's precisely the same with IT equipment, Peter explains.

Not all employees require maximum performance. By matching the right equipment to the specific need, both costs and environmental impact can be reduced without compromising functionality, according to Peter. Today, approximately 80 percent of Riddermark Bil's IT equipment is sourced through Itreon. The communication is straightforward, feedback is clear, and the process is consistent.

– They are responsive, prompt, and share our mindset. A product shouldn't sit in storage; it should be out in use. This applies to both cars and IT, Peter states.

For organizations that still lack a clear process for managing old IT equipment, Peter's advice is simple:

– It's definitely worth trying. There's no cost to test and evaluate it yourself. For us, it has been highly successful.
